Kate and her team created an environment where everyone felt safe, encouraged and able to take part at their own pace. The adapted canoeing session lasted over an hour, giving participants time to settle into the rhythm of the water, build trust in the equipment and enjoy the sense of freedom that comes with being outdoors.

Caring for someone with a brain injury can be life‑changing. At Headway Huddersfield & District, we know that when a person sustains a brain injury, the impact extends far beyond the individual — it affects partners, parents, children, friends and the wider family network. Carers often find themselves navigating new responsibilities, unfamiliar challenges and emotional strain, sometimes overnight.

Our Study Day brings together professionals, survivors, families, carers and anyone with an interest in brain injury rehabilitation, support and community development across Calderdale and Kirklees. It’s an opportunity to learn, connect and explore the services available locally — all for just £35.

Our 1st Wednesday events are free, welcoming and open to anyone affected by brain injury, as well as those who simply want to support community across Calderdale and Kirklees. Whether you’re joining us for the first time or returning each month, you’ll always find a friendly space to connect, share and take part.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, sponsors, and everyone who joined us on the night, we have raised an outstanding £5,274.14 — the highest amount ever raised at a Headway Huddersfield & District Summer Ball.

August Members Outing: A Behind‑the‑Scenes Visit to Huddersfield Fire Station Our August 3rd‑Wednesday outing took us to Huddersfield Fire Station, where members enjoyed an engaging and informative tour hosted by the team at West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service. Our committee met on Tuesday 4 August to review recent activities, plan upcoming events, and continue strengthening support for brain injury survivors across Huddersfield & Halifax, in Calderdale and Kirklees.

The day will bring together leading professionals in brain injury rehabilitation alongside powerful lived‑experience voices from survivors and families. Together, we’ll look at how communities can support recovery, resilience and reconnection.

Our next Headway Huddersfield & District committee meeting will take place on Tuesday 4th August 2026, bringing together the volunteers and committee members who help shape everything we do for brain injury survivors across Calderdale and Kirklees.
