🧠 October Drop‑In Round‑Up: Community, Conversation and the Power of Volunteers

Our 1st Wednesday drop‑in session on 7th October 2026 brought members together once again at our usual venue, Lindley Methodist Church Centre on East Street, Lindley, for an evening of connection, support and shared experience. These sessions remain at the heart of Headway Huddersfield & District — a space where people affected by brain injury can meet others who truly understand.

Digital Inclusion: Preventing Isolation in a Digital World

We were pleased to welcome Lauren from the Digital Inclusion Team at Kirklees Council, who joined us to share practical information and resources designed to help people stay connected online. For many individuals living with a brain injury, navigating the digital world can be challenging, and Lauren’s guidance offered reassurance, confidence and new ways to reduce digital isolation.

A Fire Evacuation Practice (and a Bit of Excitement!)

As part of our legal and safety responsibilities, we carried out a fire evacuation practice during the session. It added a little unexpected excitement to the evening, but it also ensured that everyone knows what to do should an emergency ever occur. Thank you to all members for taking part so calmly and positively.

Welcoming New Members

We were delighted to welcome Lisa, who is caring for her son in his 20s following a brain injury. Our drop‑ins are designed to be inclusive of all ages, all abilities, carers, family members and volunteers. Whether someone is newly adjusting or has been living with the effects of brain injury for many years, they are always welcome.

💙 Volunteers Make Our Drop‑Ins Possible

Our drop‑in sessions are peer‑led, and without volunteers, they simply cannot run.

Volunteers help with:

  • Setting up the room

  • Welcoming new members

  • Offering peer support

  • Preparing refreshments

  • Supporting activities and guest speakers

  • Ensuring sessions remain safe, friendly and inclusive

If you have time, skills or lived experience you’d like to share, we would love to hear from you. Even a small commitment makes a big difference.

💛 Sponsorship Helps Us Keep These Sessions Free

We are also grateful to organisations and individuals who sponsor our drop‑ins. Sponsorship helps us cover:

  • Venue costs

  • Refreshments

  • Materials for activities

  • Guest speakers

  • Accessibility needs

Sponsorship can start from as little as £50, and every contribution directly supports brain injury survivors, families and carers across Calderdale and Kirklees.

If your organisation would like to sponsor a session — or if you know someone who might — please get in touch.

🌟 Join Us Next Month

Our drop‑ins take place on the first Wednesday of every month (except August and December) from 7pm to 9pm at Lindley Methodist Church Centre. Whether you’re a survivor, carer, family member, professional or volunteer, you’re welcome to join us.

Together, we continue to build a community where no one faces brain injury alone.
