Progress Update: Our Next Steps Toward Becoming a Headway Charity

Headway Huddersfield & District is pleased to share an important development in our ongoing work to strengthen and secure long‑term brain injury support across the region. This morning, our sub‑committee met at the Holiday Inn in Brighouse, located on the border of Calderdale and Kirklees, to progress the next formal stage of our application to become an independent Headway Charity.

During the meeting, committee members reviewed the draft business plan in detail and agreed a clear schedule of tasks required to complete the business plan, constitution, and supporting documentation for submission to the Charity Commission. This work represents a significant step forward in establishing a sustainable, locally governed organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by brain injury.

As part of this transition, we are proposing the new charity name: Headway Calderdale & Kirklees.

Preparing for Future Governance

In anticipation of becoming a registered charity, we are beginning early outreach to identify individuals who may be interested in joining our Board of Trustees from 2027 onwards. We are seeking people with experience in:

  • HR and people management

  • Fundraising and income generation

  • Safeguarding

  • Compliance and governance

Trustees will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of the charity, ensuring strong governance, and supporting the continued development of services for brain injury survivors and their families.

Looking Ahead

This is an exciting and defining moment for our organisation. The move toward charitable status will allow us to expand our reach, strengthen our partnerships, and build a more resilient future for brain injury support across Calderdale and Kirklees.

We will continue to share updates as our application progresses. If you would like to express interest in future trustee opportunities or learn more about this transition, please get in touch with our committee.
