August Members Outing: A Behind‑the‑Scenes Visit to Huddersfield Fire Station

Our August 3rd‑Wednesday outing took us to Huddersfield Fire Station, where members enjoyed an engaging and informative tour hosted by the team at West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.

The visit offered a rare opportunity to explore behind the scenes of a working fire station. Members were shown around the canteen, rest rooms, equipment store and the rear yard, gaining insight into the day‑to‑day environment of the crews who keep our communities safe.

A highlight of the afternoon was spending time with the main fire engine. Members were able to look closely at the specialist equipment carried on board and learn more about how firefighters use it during emergency responses. The watch on duty provided clear explanations, answered questions and made the experience both educational and enjoyable.

We extend our sincere thanks to the watch at Huddersfield Fire Station for welcoming us and giving our group such a comprehensive tour. Their time, enthusiasm and professionalism were greatly appreciated.

We also want to thank our volunteer committee members, Adrian and Georgina, for escorting the group and making the visit possible. Their support ensures our members can enjoy safe, accessible and confidence‑building outings each month.

This visit was a fantastic opportunity for our members to connect, learn and experience something new — a reminder of how valuable community partnerships can be.
