Every 90 seconds

It Only Takes a Few Seconds for Life to Change

A brain injury can happen in an instant. Strokes, falls, road traffic collisions, assaults, brain tumours, meningitis — these are just a few of the many causes that can completely alter the course of someone’s life. The impact is often sudden, devastating and long‑lasting, affecting not only the individual but also their family, friends and wider support network.

At Headway, the national brain injury charity, support is available for anyone affected. Through local groups and branches, a free national helpline, and extensive online resources, Headway helps people rebuild their lives second by second, step by step, day by day.

Supporting Calderdale and Kirklees Since 2004

Here at Headway Huddersfield & District, we are proud to support brain injury survivors from across Calderdale and Kirklees, along with their families and carers. Established in June 2004, our branch is run entirely by volunteers, and we raise our own funds to keep our services going.

For over 20 years, people have come to us for many different reasons — to find friendship, to seek guidance, to rebuild confidence, or simply to get out of the house and meet others who understand what they’re going through.

What We Offer

We run two core monthly sessions:

  • 1st Wednesday Drop‑In   A safe, welcoming space offering support, conversation, group activities, guest speakers and practical advice.

  • 3rd Wednesday Outing   Accessible activities designed to build confidence, reduce isolation and help members reconnect with their community.

Both sessions are open to anyone affected by brain injury — whether the injury is recent or historic. No diagnosis is required, and no referral is needed. Partners, family members and carers are always welcome. We hold other events throughout the year and you can check these out on our events page at https://www.headwayhuddersfield.com/events-1

Working Together to Rebuild Lives

Brain injury can affect every part of a person’s life — physical, cognitive, emotional and social. Our aim is to provide a place where people feel understood, supported and empowered to move forward at their own pace.

We also welcome supporters who want to help us strengthen what we offer. Whether through recommending relevant guest speakers, volunteering time, or sponsoring a drop‑in session, your involvement can make a meaningful difference.
