2853 Brain Injuries

🧠 Brain Injury Awareness in Calderdale & Kirklees

Did you know that across the UK, every 90 seconds someone is admitted to hospital with an acquired brain injury? That means:

- Every 4 minutes someone is admitted with a head injury

- Every 4 minutes someone is admitted following a stroke

Based on figures shared by the West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, approximately 2,853 of people across Calderdale and Kirklees were admitted to hospital during 2023–2024 with brain injuries, strokes, or head injuries. These numbers reflect the reality that brain injury is not a rare event—it touches families, carers, and communities every single day.

Here at Headway Huddersfield & District, we are proud to support survivors of brain injury, their families, and carers across Calderdale and Kirklees. From drop-in sessions and social activities to professional training and advocacy, we’re here to help people rebuild their lives and feel part of a supportive community.

💬 If you or someone you know has been affected by brain injury, get in touch to find out more about how we can help.

🤝 And if you’d like to support our work—whether through volunteering, fundraising, or sponsorship—your involvement makes a real difference to those who need it most.

Together, we can ensure that no one faces brain injury alone.
